1. In a medium bowl, whisk packet ingredients with 2 tbsp water, 1/4 cup vegetable or olive oil and 2 tbsp white vinegar until thoroughly mixed. Reserve 2 tbsp marinade for basting.
2. Place 2 pounds shrimp or chicken in a large resealable bag or glass dish and add remaining marinade. For a plant-based option, use 1 pound extra-firm tofu, drained and cubed.
3. Refrigerate for 15 to 30 minutes. Remove meat and discard any remaning marinade.
4. Grill until desired doneness, basting with reserved marinade halfway through cooking.
